Turkmenistan AUCA Scholarship Program (TASP)
The Turkmenistan American University in Central Asia Scholar Program (TASP) provides outstanding Turkmen students with scholarships to pursue a 4-year undergraduate degree at AUCA in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan in the following fields of study:
- American Studies
- Journalism
- Business Administration
- Law
- Cultural Anthropology
- Psychology
- Economics
- Sociology
- European Studies
- Software Engineering (IT)
- International and Comparative Politics
TASP is fully funded by the US State Department through the United States Embassy in Ashgabat, and administered by American Councils for International Education (ACCELS) in Turkmenistan.
NEW Eligibility Requirements (according to the new regulations of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic):
- Have completed (or will complete this year) Turkmen-Turkish high school or
- Have completed (or will complete this year) the Turkmen-Russian school named after A.S. Pushkin in Ashgabat or
- Have completed secondary school before 1997 with Turkmen language of instruction or
- Have completed secondary school before 2002 with Russian language of instruction or
- Have completed a 3 year professional college in Turkmenistan (3 years with professional qualification)
Selection Process
October, 2008
Application process: candidates must submit an application to the ACCELS office no later than December 26, 17:00. Applicants from the regions may submit application forms at the American Corner in their region. Download the application form here in Microsoft Office Word format.
January, 2009
Applicants will be required to take a TOEFL English language test. Those who will meet minimum TOEFL admission requirement will be invited to take AUCA department exams. All tests will be conducted in Ashgabat.
February – March, 2009
AUCA will decide which students have been accepted for admission to American University in Central Asia. Among those students admitted to the university, ACCELS chooses semi-finalists for the TASP scholarships. Semi-finalists will be invited to interview with American Councils representatives. All interviews will be conducted in Ashgabat.
April, 2009
An independent selection committee will select finalists for the TASP scholarship based on the following factors: academic history, English language abilities, understanding of field of study, leadership potential, and compatibility with AUCA admissions standards.
May, 2009
TASP Finalists will be informed of their status by telephone.
