Ashgabat, January 30, 2009 – Today, the U.S. Embassy in Ashgabat donated musical instruments to a local music school.  The ceremony is one of five ceremonies to be held in various music schools around Ashgabat from January 28 through February 3.

Charge d’Affaires Ambassador Richard Miles has taken a personal role in the handover ceremonies.  At school #1, Children prepared a small concert of Turkmen and world music as a sign of appreciation for the gifts.

The embassy has donated $16,000 worth of musical instruments, such as a grand piano, several pianos and other instruments, to five schools in Ashgabat to support the development of musical talent and education at local secondary schools.  The embassy is happy to have such an opportunity to support Turkmenistan’s efforts to develop culture and education among its youth.
