American Modern Dance Troupe Tours Turkmenistan

Ashgabat, April 9, 2012 – The Sean Curran Company, a modern dance ensemble based in New York City, is touring Turkmenistan this week as part of a regional cultural tour organized by the U.S. Department of State. Visiting Turkmenistan from April 7-13, 2012, the group will be conducting a series of workshops and seminars with Turkmen dance groups throughout the week. Their visit will culminate with a public performance in Ashgabat.

The performance is free to all, and will take place on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at 18:30 at the Mukamlar Palace, National Cultural Center, in Ashgabat. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The Sean Curran Company is a highly regarded dance ensemble which has performed on Broadway and toured the United States for the last fifteen years. This year they have been selected to be cultural ambassadors of the United States as participants in the DanceMotion USA program, a State Department effort to showcase contemporary American dance abroad and promote mutual understanding between nations through music and dance. This tour is being coordinated by the State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, and is produced in partnership with the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM).
