Ashgabat, April 5, 2012 – Today the United States Embassy in Turkmenistan hosted a public event to introduce new iPads, MacBook Air and iMac Learning Stations for the Turkmen public’s use at the Embassy’s Information Resources Center (IRC). The devices are some of the most recent examples of the tremendously popular consumer products offered by the world-renowned technology company Apple. The new equipment both broadens the scope and changes the way that information can be made available to Turkmen citizens, as the devices offer a vast array of ever-expanding educational and informational resources. Newly-available content can serve as either a primary or supplemental way for users to learn about topics as widely varied as music and literature, the life and physical sciences and language instruction.
Representatives of Government of Turkmenistan ministries, members of the educational, scientific and cultural community, and regular visitors to the IRC, as well as representatives of U.S. Government partner organizations working in Turkmenistan, took part in the event.
Deputy Chief of Mission Susan Thornton gave opening remarks at the event and also congratulated participants on the 20th anniversary of the formal establishment of diplomatic relations between the United States and Turkmenistan, another theme of the event. Embassy staff gave a brief overview of the new technology, then worked with visitors in hands-on demonstrations.
