American University in Bulgaria Seeks Cooperation with Turkmenistan

Representatives from American University in Bulgaria (AUBG), President David Huwiler and Provost Ann Ferren visited Turkmenistan from March 23 through March 27, 2009.  During their visit to Ashgabat, the representatives conducted presentations for students and teachers at Turkmen State University, the Institute of Foreign Relations, specialized School #27 and the Turgut Ozal Turkmen-Turkish School.  Mr. Huwiler and Ms. Ferren also had series of meetings with officials of Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Education, as well as the Cabinet of Ministers, where they discussed the educational opportunities their university could offer to Turkmen faculty members and high school graduates. Currently, there are six Turkmen students successfully studying at AUBG, and University would like to expand its scholarship program to admit more Turkmen students.

American University in Bulgaria (AUBG) is a private, selective, residential liberal arts college located in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria. AUBG is one of a dozen of fully accredited American universities abroad. Established in 1991, it has 1072 students from 34 countries on four continents from Eastern Europe and beyond (as of 2008). The language of instruction at AUBG is English. Baccalaureate degrees conferred by AUBG are accredited in both Bulgaria (which includes EU acdreditation) and the United States. AUBG has its school accreditation in the United States from New England Association of Schools and Colleges.  The university offers American-style Bachelor of Arts degrees in 8 majors: Business Administration, Computer Science, Economics, European Studies, History, Journalism and Mass communications, Mathematics, Political science — International Relations.
