Ashgabat, July 2, 2009 – Today, the United States, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), started a training course on econometrics for Turkmen economic and banking sector specialists.

The course will last until July 10 and will focus on fundamental approaches to econometric modeling techniques and the EViews econometric analysis software recognized world-wide and used for general statistical and econometric analyses, estimation, and forecasting and has a variety of estimation and simulation functions and tools.  Attendees include specialists from the Ministry of Economy and Development, the Ministry of Finance, the Central Bank, the State Statistics Committee and the Institute of Strategic Planning and Economic Development of Turkmenistan.

Upon completion of the training course, USAID will provide these agencies ten licenses of the EViews econometric analysis software.  The training and the software are intended to enhance the capacity of the Turkmen economic researchers and analysts to conduct macroeconomic modeling and facilitate decisions related to the country’s economic development.

This training is organized by the USAID Project for Economic Reforms to Enhance Competitiveness (EREC) that is one of the many programs made possible by the American people through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) in Turkmenistan.  Since 1993, the American people through USAID have provided more than $80 million in programs that support Turkmenistan’s economic growth, social sector, and community initiatives.
