Deputy Assistant Secretary of State George Krol Heads U.S. Delegation at International Oil and Gas Conference in Turkmenistan

Ashgabat, April 22, 2009 – Deputy Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs, Ambassador George A. Krol, is visiting Turkmenistan April 22-24 to hold discussions with government officials in Turkmenistan on a wide range of cooperation issues.  Ambassador Krol will also head the U.S. delegation at the international conference entitled "Reliable and Secure Transit of Energy and Its Role in Maintaining Sustainable Economic Development and International Cooperation."  The conference will take place April 23-24 in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

Ambassador Krol joined the U.S. Foreign Service in 1982.   He served as U.S. Ambassador to Belarus in 2003-2006 and has held previous postings in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kiev, Minsk, Warsaw and New Delhi as well as several State Department assignments including Director of Russian Affairs and Special Assistant to the Ambassador at large for the New Independent States.
