PAS No 195
September 19, 2007
Ashgabat, September 19, 2007 – The Embassy of the United States of America in Turkmenistan hosted an Iftar Dinner on September 18, 2007, at the Turkish Cultural Center in Ashgabat, on the occasion of Ramadan. Representatives of Turkmenistan’s ministries and government agencies, as well as representatives of diplomatic missions in Turkmenistan, joined the event to show their respect for Muslim traditions.
U.S. Religion, State and Society Specialist David Hunsicker joined religious leaders from Turkmenistan for prayers and spoke about the importance of Ramadan at the event: “Muslims have been present in small numbers in the United States for over two hundred years, but now more than ever before they are playing an active role in the mainstream of American society. And their contributions have helped to create a bridge between Americans and Muslims around the world, which this event is but one small example."
The Iftar Dinner is another way of showing respect and the willingness of the American people to join with Muslims around the world in the celebration of Ramadan.
