U.S. Congressman Peter Hoekstra Visits Turkmenistan

Ashgabat, April 6, 2007 – Congressman Peter Hoekstra (R-MI) visited Turkmenistan April 4-5 to discuss issues of bilateral cooperation and regional security with the Government of Turkmenistan.  His scheduled meetings included a discussion with Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Foreign Minister Rashit Meredov.

Mr. Hoekstra was born in Groningen, The Netherlands, on October 30, 1953.  He graduated from Holland Christian High School in Holland, Michigan, and received his B.A. from Hope College, Michigan in 1975, and his M.B.A. from the University of Michigan in 1977.  Mr. Hoekstra was elected as a Republican to the 103rd Congress of the United States and to the seven succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1993-present).
