Yellow Bird Native American Performance Group Visits Turkmenistan

Ashgabat, April 2, 2007 – Yellow Bird, a group of six Native American performers, is visiting Turkmenistan for a week of public performances, with the support of the U.S. Embassy and Turkmenistan's Ministry of Culture and TV and Radio Broadcasting. The group is participating in Turkmenistan's Theater and Folklore Festival from April 1-7.

Yellow Bird Productions is an Apache, Native American family who, as performers of authentic Apache, Southwest and Northern Plains Dances, music and storytelling, have shared the cultural heritage of Native American Indians with groups around the world and in the United States. They were named "Culture Keepers of Arizona" by Arizona Governor Janet Napalitano and have performed for U.S. First Lady Laura Bush. The family group includes a four-time World Champion World Hoop Dancer and the 2003 World Champion Youth Hoop Dancer.

The Yellow Bird group will also conduct public performances at the Seydi State Music and Drama Theater of Lebap Welayat, located in Turkmenabat City, on Wednesday April 4 (from 19:30) , and at the Kemine State Drama Theater of Mary Welayat, located in Mary City, on Friday, April 6 (from 19:00). All performances are free and open to the public.
