Ashgabat, March 14, 2007 – Technical specialists from the United States Department of Energy held a three-day Commodity Identification Seminar from 12-14 March at the Nissa Hotel in Ashgabat. Twenty representatives from Turkmenistan's State Customs Service, the State Border Service and the Ministry of Trade and Consumer Cooperation attended the seminar.
The purpose of the seminar was to provide information that will help front-line officers identify and interdict potentially dangerous materials used in the manufacturing of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons. The officers participated in several practical exercises that reinforced the information provided during the seminar.
The seminar was conducted as part of the U.S. Embassy's Export Control and Related Border Security program in Turkmenistan, an example of the continued cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United States.
