U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State B. Lynn Pascoe Meets with Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov

U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State B. Lynn Pascoe of the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs in the U.S. Department of State met with Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov this morning to discuss a range of bilateral issues, as well as the current situation in Afghanistan. He delivered a letter from Secretary of State Colin Powell to the Foreign Minister and thanked him for Turkmenistan's assistance in providing humanitarian aid to the Afghan people. Ambassador Pascoe and the Foreign Minister discussed the international community's efforts to rebuild Afghanistan's political, economic, social, and security infrastructure. Ambassador Pascoe also met with international financial institutions and non-governmental organizations while in Turkmenistan. He is on a regional tour with stops in Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan.
A Career Minister in the Senior Foreign Service of the United States, Ambassador Pascoe served most recently as Ambassador in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He earlier served as the U.S. Special Negotiator for Nagorno-Karabakh and Regional Conflicts and the U.S. Co-Chair of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe's Minsk Group. In over three decades in the Foreign Service, he has held numerous senior-level positions in Washington, and been posted to Moscow, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Taipei and Kuala Lumpur, as well as twice to Beijing. He speaks Mandarin Chinese.
