Public Affairs Section Opens Expanded Information Resource Center

Today the U.S. Embassy's Public Affairs Section celebrated the grand opening of its new offices and Information Resource Center (IRC) at the 4 th of floor of the Ak Altyn Hotel in Ashgabat.
U.S. Ambassador Tracey Ann Jacobson noted that the new location will facilitate the exchange of ideas and information among a variety of audiences. "We are happy to be able to expand our interaction and dialogue with the public here in this facility," she emphasized.
The Information Resource Center includes a library of electronic and hard copy resources as well as a public-access computer lab with nine computers equipped with Internet access. The Center provides information on current U.S. foreign and domestic policies, U.S. news, Congressional legislation, trade matters, and social and cultural issues, and free access to several commercial databases for research in a wide range of fields. The expanded IRC lending library includes English language learning and academic and professional development books.
The Public Affairs Section hosts a range of academic and professional development activities as well as film showings, training in Internet usage skills, and public events on a range of cultural and educational themes.
