U.S. Government Donates Border Security Equipment to Turkmenistan

A November 22, 2005 handover ceremony in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, marked the the U.S. Government’s donation of nine UAZ jeeps, three GAZ water trucks, and radio and networking equipment to Turkmenistan’s State Border Service. U.S. Ambassador to Turkmenistan Tracey Ann Jacobson, Deputy Chief of the State Border Service Colonel Rahmanberdi Annasahatov and the Director of the Export Control and Related Border Security Assistance (EXBS) program in Turkmenistan participated in the ceremony. The equipment was transferred to the State Border Guard Service within the framework of EXBS, which is run by the Department of State's Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation, Office of Export Control Cooperation.

EXBS provides joint training programs in Turkmenistan and the United States and supplies equipment and supplies to help strengthen Turkmenistan’s border security efforts. The value of the equipment handed over on November 22 total approximately $838,000.
