USAID Provides Computer Training for Basin Water Management Operators
March 3, 2003
From February 24-28, 2003, a group of twelve staff members of the Basin Water Management Association (BVO) "Amu Darya" attended a computer course organized by USAID’s Central Asia Natural Resources Management Program (NRMP). BVO Amu Darya operators from Dashoguz and Lebap regions came to Ashgabat for training on the use of computer operational systems, word processing, and spreadsheet development. This is the first in a series of training programs, which follow NRMP’s donation of computer equipment to BVO Amu Darya.
Basin Water Management associations are a key link in Central Asia’s irrigation system. The Amu Darya river is the only source of water in Dashoguz and Lebap, which are densely populated regions with intensive agricultural production. The new computer equipment and training programs provided by USAID will allow BVO Amu Darya to improve water management planning and operations, benefiting Turkmen irrigators and enabling them to increase production, contribute to economic growth, and mitigate environmental concerns.
