President Bush Sends Gurban Bairam Holiday Wishes

President George W. Bush sent the following letter to the People of Turkmenistan, on the occasion of the Muslim holiday of the Gurban Bairam:

February 4, 2003

To the People of Turkmenistan:

On behalf of the American people, I extend our best wishes on the occasion of Kurban Bairam. This is an important holiday for Muslims around the globe, and we wish all the best to the Turkmen people, Muslims and Non-Muslims alike. It is our hope that the friendship between our peoples will continue to grow in the next year.

The U.S. Ambassador Laura E. Kennedy and staff of the American Embassy in Ashgabat extend their best wishes on the occasion of this holy day. Ambassador Laura E. Kennedy would like to thank all of our friends in Turkmenistan who have contacted the Embassy to express their condolences on the tragic explosion of the Columbia space shuttle.
