The U.S. Embassy in Ashgabat organized American Culture Week July 1-4, 2002, in celebration of America's Independence Day and the tenth anniversary of Turkmen-American diplomatic relations.

On July 1, 2002, the U.S. Embassy sponsored "Interdisciplinary Studies of Turkmenistan - United States Relations", organized by the Center for American Studies at Turkmen State University.

American Culture Week continued with a one-day photo and book exhibition at the National Library. The exhibition displayed photos about the ten-year history of the U.S. Mission in Turkmenistan.

A public concert of American and Turkmen music was held at the "Mekan" Culture Palace on July 3, 2002. A joint orchestra and jazz group of the National Culture Center of Turkmenistan performed the music of George Duke, Frank Sinatra, George Gershwin, Rejep Allayarov and others.
