Nov. 27, 2001
The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) delivered to Ashgabat an additional shipment of humanitarian goods bound for Afghanistan on November 12, 2001. The medical supplies, weighing 4,325 kilograms and worth $21,540, will provide for 50,000 people over a three-month period.
The United Nations Children's Fund has moved the supplies to Turkmenabat and will deliver them in the coming weeks to the people of Northern Afghanistan.
This follows seven planeloads of supplies with blankets, sugar, high-energy biscuits, and plastic sheeting for tents as well as several shipments of U.S. Government wheat to Turkmenabat for delivery to Afghanistan. The U.S. Government has donated over $246 million since October 2001 to Afghanistan and is committed to the health and welfare of the Afghan people.
