Humanitarian Assistance from the USA to the National Red Crescent Society of Turkmenistan

March 12, 2001

In early March a 40-foot container of humanitarian assistance is expected to arrive in Turkmenistan. This container is carrying adjustable hospital beds valued at US $161,943, donated by the US Government as part of its on-going initiative to support the vulnerable populations in Turkmenistan.

This project is being administered for the US State Department by Counterpart International Humanitarian Assistance Program (CHAP), in collaboration with CHAP’s distribution partner – the National Red Crescent Society of Turkmenistan. (TRCS).

Adjustable hospital beds will be handed to the Society’s Charity Houses and Territorial Centers in all velayats of Turkmenistan, aiming at upgrading patient care service all over the country.

CHAP has been working with the National Red Crescent Society of Turkmenistan for two years. Since that TRCS has received from CHAP various types of assistance valued at more than 1,758,660. This spring the Society expects to receive two more CHAP shipments of clothing, footwear, medical equipment and supplies.
