First visit to Turkmenistan for George A. Krol as New Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Central Asia

Ashgabat, September 01, 2008 – Deputy Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs, Ambassador George A. Krol is visiting Turkmenistan September 1-5 to hold discussions with the leadership of Turkmenistan on a wide range of issues of mutual interest. Ambassador Krol’s visit will focus on familiarizing himself with developments in Turkmenistan and discussing ways to expand and deepen the American-Turkmen relationship. 

Ambassador Krol joined the U.S. Foreign Service in 1982.   He served as U.S. Ambassador to Belarus in 2003-2006 and has held previous postings in Moscow, St Petersburg, Kiev, Minsk, Warsaw and New Delhi as well as several State Department assignments including Director of Russian Affairs and Special Assistant to the Ambassador at large for the New Independent states.
