Independence Day Congratulations by Charge d’Affaires, a. i. Ambassador Richard E. Hoagland
On behalf of the people and government of the United States, I wish heartfelt congratulations to the people and government of Turkmenistan on the occasion of the 16th anniversary of independence. Turkmenistan’s enduring policy of permanent neutrality is the best guarantee of its independence and sovereignty, allowing it the freedom to build mutually beneficial and respectful relations with all peaceful states and to make its own decisions for the long-term benefit of the citizens of Turkmenistan.
Turkmenistan is changing dramatically, and the United States is pleased with our new bilateral relationship in a broad range of areas based on mutual trust, respect, and cooperation. We note with pleasure President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov’s commitment to the social sector, including rural development, health care, and education. Educating the next generation to participate successfully in the global community, including ensuring universal access to the Internet, is an especially important responsibility. Well-educated citizens help to build a stronger state by promoting economic development, democratic values, and respect for human rights.
We fully support President Berdimuhamedov’s commitment to exploit responsibly and with the most advanced technology the vast natural resources of Turkmenistan for the benefit of this and future generations. We respect his sovereign decision to diversify Turkmenistan’s export routes for these resources. We offer our fullest cooperation for this laudable goal, as well as to help develop a transparent and efficient world-class business and investment climate.
Finally, to the citizens of Turkmenistan, I wish each and every one of you peace, happiness, good health, and prosperity in the year ahead.
