On May 16-17 The U.S. Embassy in Turkmenistan and the Supreme Council for Science and Technology of Turkmenistan co-hosted the 5th annual International Fulbright Conference. Every year this conference gathers scholars and scientists from various fields of study to discuss subjects of a global importance, as well as alumni of this very prestigious program, which was named after J. William Fulbright, an American senator. This year the theme of the conference was “Energetics and alternative energy sources”. Organizers chose this subject because of Turkmenistan’s rich potential in solar and wind energy.

The conference, held at the Nebitchi Hotel in Ashgabat, gathered more than 80 participants from various Turkmen institutions and government agencies, and several international guests from the USA, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Afghanistan. On the first day of the conference, guests had a chance to hear plenary reports, and work in sections. That evening they were all also guests of a reception held at the residence of the Charge d’Affaires a.i Richard Miles, where they had a chance to mingle in a more relaxed atmosphere. The second day was dedicated to Fulbright alumni and scholars, who worked more closely on the subject.

This conference was a very important event for the scientific community of Turkmenistan, who were able to share their knowledge with each other and their foreign colleagues.
