The Embassy of the United States in Turkmenistan, through the Embassy’s Public Affairs Office, participated in the “International Exhibition on National Renaissance and Masterpieces of World Art” June 26-June 28.  This event, which was hosted by the Government of Turkmenistan, drew participants from every country represented by an embassy in Turkmenistan, and attendees included state officials, local government representatives, and the local Turkmen population.  The American exhibit consisted of a number of handmade items on loan from Embassy staff, including handmade patchwork quilts, wall hangings, needlepoint, paintings, and pottery.  Life-sized cardboard figures of well-known Hollywood stars proved extremely popular, both among the general population and representatives of foreign embassies.

The American exhibit distributed a number of items such as information packets, learning aids, U.S. maps, and CDs of the 2007 Turkmen-American jazz concert.  An American representative was present on each of the days to answer questions and distribute material.  Embassy intern Rachel Sosin participated in three television interviews, and two print.  The American exhibit was widely attended and was universally popular with exhibit attendees.
