Ashgabat, February 13, 2009 – The alumni of U.S. Government exchange programs gathered together at the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Ashgabat for a Black History Month evening event. Charge d’Affaires Ambassador Richard Miles and Deputy Chief of Mission Sylvia Curran shared their life experience from the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s and spoke about the role of black heritage in American life and history. Some alumni shared their experience living in a black community in the United States and active alumni received certificates of appreciation for their significant contribution to the success of embassy alumni programs in 2008. The embassy also had a gift raffle and FLEX alumni performed a short skit for Saint Valentine’s Day.
