U.S. Department of Treasury Technical Team Invited to Turkmenistan
Team to Discuss Economic Reforms

Ashgabat, September 07, 2007 – A U.S. Department of the Treasury technical team will arrive in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan September 9 to begin a two-day visit of briefings and meetings with their Turkmenistan government counterparts. The delegation, headed by Office for Europe and Eurasia Deputy Director Jeffrey Baker, will hold meetings with representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Economy and Finance, Welfare and Social Care, and Central Bank of Turkmenistan. The team will discuss ways to develop further cooperation on banking and financial reforms as well as to develop respect for intellectual property rights in Turkmenistan.
The mission of the Department of the Treasury (which in the United States is equivalent to a Ministry of Finance) is to promote the conditions for prosperity and stability in the United States. In the international arena, the Department of the Treasury works with other federal agencies, governments of other nations, and international financial institutions to encourage economic growth, raise standards of living, and predict and prevent, to the extent possible, economic and financial crises.
