Ashgabat, November 16, 2008 – Deputy Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs, Ambassador George A. Krol will visit Turkmenistan November 16-19 to head a delegation from the United States to the Turkmenistan International Oil and Gas Expo 2009 (TIOGE 2009).  The Senior Advisor to the U.S. Special Envoy for Eurasian Energy Daniel Stein will accompany Ambassador Krol in many of his meetings.  Ambassador Krol is to meet with several high-level Turkmen officials to discuss an array of bilateral issues including energy. 

Ambassador Krol joined the U.S. Foreign Service in 1982.   He served as U.S. Ambassador to Belarus in 2003-2006 and has held previous postings in Moscow, St Petersburg, Kiev, Minsk, Warsaw and New Delhi as well as several State Department assignments including Director of Russian Affairs and Special Assistant to the Ambassador at large for the New Independent states. more

US Embassy Helps Turkmen Law Enforcement Officers Learn English

U.S. Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Sylvia Curran grants a graduation certificate to Turkmen law enforcement officers that recently completed the INL-funded English Language Program.
Ashgabat, November 6, 2009 – Today marks the graduation of the latest class of Turkmen law enforcement officers (LEOs) from the US State Department's "English Language Training for Turkmen Law Enforcement Officials" program.  This year’s graduates include participants from Turkmenistan's State Customs Service, State Border Service, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of National Security, State Migration Service, State Counter Narcotics Service and Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Third United States-funded Border Crossing Checkpoint Opens in Turkmenistan

Turkmenabat, October 15, 2009 – A delegation of representatives from the U.S. Government, headed by Charge d'Affaires Sylvia Curran, the Director of the Central Asia Office, Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs at the U.S. State Department Mr. Tom Hushek, Rear Admiral Michael Franken representing the United States Central Command and Colonel Wroblewski representing the Nevada National Guard, gathered in Turkmenabat for the official opening of a new Turkmen border crossing checkpoint at Farap on the border with Uzbekistan.  This state-of-the-art facility will allow efficient international commerce while deterring illegal trafficking in narcotics, weapons of mass destruction, persons, and contraband. more
